Whalley Remembrance Parade 2025
18th of November, 2025
This year’s Remembrance Parade saw four councillors representing Whalley Parish Council: Cllr. Allen, Cllr. Highton, Cllr. Threlfall and Cllr. Vickers. Cllr Mirfin was the LCC representative and Borough Cllr Hindle was in attendance.
The day began with a packed church service, where local youth groups and village organisations were strongly represented. From there, the procession made its way along King Street. Many residents lined the route, with many commenting that this year’s turnout was larger than in previous years.
At the War Memorial, a large crowd gathered for the Act of Remembrance, led by the Reverend Jonathan Carmyllie and Father David Yates. As is tradition, the names of Whalley’s Fallen were read aloud by local young people. A bugler then sounded the Last Post and Reveille, followed by a respectful period of silence.
Wreaths were laid by Cllr. Highton and by Cllr. Allen, who placed a purple wreath introduced to commemorate the many animals, horses, dogs, pigeons and others, who lost their lives in conflicts. The dignified atmosphere was supported by a rolling road closure expertly managed by the traffic company, helping ensure a safe and reflective event.
As light rain began to fall, the service concluded, almost with perfect timing. Afterwards, the Methodist Church welcomed attendees with refreshments.
Our thanks go to all who contributed to this deeply moving occasion.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.
