Calderstones Hospital & Cemetery Remembrance Service 2023

The week before the national commemoration, the Royal British Legion held its annual service at the hospital and at the cemetery on Mitton Road.

Rev Carmyllie led, and wreaths were laid by the Mayor, community leaders and by representatives of two NHS Trusts: Mersey Care and also Lancashire and South Cumbria.

This year, an extra service was organised by Mersey Care to remember those buried in the hospital cemetery. The chaplain said that though times and ways of delivering care have changed massively in the last century, we recognise and pray for all the people who died there.

The Friends of the Cemetery and other attendees were visibly moved about this important moment of additional remembrance.
